Hybrid Forms project Brief:
The context of this project is to use conceptual thinking. It is about the consideration of where we want to place our art work, why we want to portray it in this way if its going to public space. Budgeting, transportation and planning of materials is really important when making something 3D. We are asked to think about how we can communicate information in a language and alphabet that is not our own.
The brief of this project is to pick an alphabet to the language we already know, so no one works with a language they already know. By using the alphabet we are asked to consider the shape and forms and ultimately using it to create an image. The final image should be 3D, either an installation or performance piece.
The outcome for this project is creating a 3D sculpture, installation or performance piece that will be placed in an urban, green or personal space we were thinking about. Final outcome should be documented in this place, using 360 camera, film or footage.
The aim of this project is to give us the opportunity to create images using functional objects, installations, models and sculptures. Creating image in 3D will allow us to consider our practice spatially, physically and environmentally.
Part One: Use the 3D objects supplied and others of your choice to help you consider possible construction techniques.
Part Two: Select your location and schedule a site visit to gather primary data (this will have major influence on what your ideas/ concepts/ prototypes will look like.)
Part Three: Conduct site visits for your concept and situate your outcome in this location using visualization techniques.
Research: Primary and secondary
”Art installation in Italy ended up in the bin by cleaners who thoughts it was rubbish”
An exhibition created by Sara Goldschmied and Eleonora Chiarr took place in Italy in 2015. The exhibition was an avant garden installation which was titled ”where should we go dancing tonight?” which consisted of confetti, empty bottles, shoes, and cigarettes butts. The exhibition was a representation of a messy party, alcohol swings.
It was later cleaned out by the cleaning stuff which thought it was rubbish. And the real question is modern art or just rubbish? Because the cleaning service has pilled everything in the bin bags, the exhibition was able to be reinstalled using the pictures taken before.

How public art challenges public space TED TALK by Vardit Gross
Vardit Gross is the director of Artport Art Center and Residency Program in Tel Aviv talks about how public art challenges and changes public space. Creating art for environment, for the cities and for significant places is very special and important. It allows everyone to be moved and engaged by art. The most appreciated public art, is when it talks about the city, as well as challenges people perception or view of something. Our cities, are full of art and how often do we stop, and look at it.
”In Praise of Nothing” Film:
In praise of nothing Boris Mitic interview; two verbs that describes Boris Mitic? He said that ” ”In the nothing” film, I think one verb that I like is deflate. Almost like deflating, I think we should defleate things around us, deflate our sense of entitlement, deflate our expectations, deflate the little dramas, little big problems that we think we have. Second verb would be oratory size. To use rhetorics you know the art of expressing and the art of shaping your opinions I think this should be like the ultimate you know, I think life would be more fun if we would all have kind of a laid back, cool down vision of ourselves and of the world, and if we learned to express ourselves in a more precise and inspiring way. ”
”A tongue-in-cheek parody of a parable, this documentary follows the character ‘nothing’, narrated by Iggy Pop, as it leaves home to discover the world.
Travelling across eight mountain ranges and eight seas to come and visit us, ‘nothing’ comments on all it sees, contemplating life and death, politics, the relationship between men and women, and the meaning of life, all in simple verse. Iggy Pop’s rhythmic narration and a score by cabaret grandmasters Pascal Comelade and the Tiger Lillies are met with a series of stunning images of nothing, filmed all over the world by 62 cinematographers.
The result is a playful, self-reflexive expedition where small mysteries and poetic observations blend to form a compelling whole. A delightful excursion about everything and nothing.”
Workshop 3: Experimental Typography and Stencil Workshop
Idea:
Something alive growing inside a dead place, almost like a state of mind. For example healing from an illness like depression. At times, it can feel like everything around you had died but the fight against your demons/yourself allows you to grow within it.
My idea is to establish or distinguish what is art when we live in a world that expands the meaning of art. In a way that sometimes modern art can be confused for something that doesn’t always have the qualities to be called art, and where do we find the correct boundaries for it to be considered a piece of art work, and who therefore considers it?
Artists often create a piece of art work that have a strong meaning for them, but also connects new perspectives for people to see it. Without new perspectives there is no art. The view of artists is very important one, because it captures a visions of unique matters that might be lost in a normal life-style. Art can be used as a powerful instruments to express this.
Someone who shows off their piece of art work with a false made up subjects makes no meaning at all and stand in a line with the rest of fake artists as the world is already full of them.

Artist research:
Emily Silver: is an artist that examines the space between celebratory and the tragedy that exist in the life of an event. Emily Silver is inspired by parties, parades, carnivals and funerals. Her sculptures often become short animations and photographs that explore the perception of what is real what is desired, and what is anticipated. She questions the ephemeral items that are used only once and then thrown away usually for these special occasions. The items are party hats, balloons, decorations and many more.
Emily Silver looks closely at details in her work in a way that a lot of her sculptures are repurposed into new sculptures as cardboard and paper that can really last for a long time. She says ”I like that over time things will change, the paper might yellow etc., it shows aging and lingers on the sadness underlying in the work.”

final presentation on hybrid (Click on the link) Final Presentation for Hybrid forms/critique 26/04/19
On Friday, 26th April 2019, we had our final project presentation for hybrid form. The presentation consisted of 5 minute talk next to AV screen to my group, and 5 minute feedback from peers and tutors. This was my second presentation in this semester, and comparing to my first one, it gave me much more confidence and I was able to speak very confidently to peers as well as giving feedback to students. My presentation consisted of 10 slides, and I had written notes for myself to be more organised as well as because under so much stress of presenting It is very likely I might forget something.
The feedback that I have received from my group and my tutor, is to take pictures of my installation in different places (to show contrast) – although I know my final pictures weren’t my chosen place but some people liked it and said that it suits the aesthetic. Because my installation is so vibrant and a lot is happening my peers said to take pictures in a calmer space- even a white cube space to really show those details and make my installation stand out even more. The second place I am planning to take my pictures is the nomadic community garden in Brick Lane as it has a rich meaning behind it. To improve my concept, I should look more closely into my Arabic language and make it work even more- use more shapes that look like these alphabet letters.
Lastly, I received many positive feedbacks, about the colour pallet, and one person said that my installation looks like a creature. Unintentionally, I think I always combine my style with everything I do. Most of my work is based on my imagination therefore I think that is the beauty of it. My installation was not fully finished when I have presented it to my class, because I know for sure I still want play with these shapes. I would especially like to add more tights to it, and melting transparent acrylic sheets to experiment with materials but also because I feel like it can add a very nice finishing and texture.
