Session 1: Introduction what is contemporary art?
For me, contemporary art can be anything that an artist expresses within a certain topic or theme. Because the art has eveloved so much that in the past it wouldn’t be understood or allowed. Like everything in the world, contemporary art is more networked than ever before that almost anything can appear to be visibile, thus, there is no right or wrong. Contemporary art is also a reflection of our generation now, I think we are very rebellios, we like to change things be active in what is happening around us; especially the young youth. By making new ideas and new questions, we fight certain boundries to make the world to almost be like contempoarary art, visible and free.
Contemporary art is almost indefinable, and its artists are constatnly reinventing themselves and synthesizing previously isolated fields and ideas. (Etan Jonathan Ilfeld, page 7, Beyond contemporary art)
What is the different between an art and design?
During our session we talked about luxory vs nesseciaty.

Thesis proposal question sheet 1:
- Thesis proposal is selecting a topic and asking a research question about it. The question is usually related to art & design field but can be anything that interests me. I assume that the thesis proposal for this year will be thinking about my question and planning my writing which will help me figure out my route: A or B for 3rd year.
- The kind of activities and work I will have to do, to put my thesis proposal together is careful research, a lot of reading and analytical thinking. I will have to investigate my chosen question and think of how it will be answered. I will have to plan my time management which will help me organise my project. I will have to find inspiration not only in books, but also in places, objects or people.
- The challenges that I will be facing to produce my independent research for the thesis proposal will be certainly not having the access to the library and having all my books that interests me at home in London. Spending so much time next to the screen already is difficult, and having to read everything from a computer will be a little tricky. I do like to have a physical book.
- A helpful approach to writing a thesis is not limiting yourself to the resources. Sometimes its good to get lost and expand your thinking. From there, many great things happen.
- I am interested in colour and what kind of impact it has on our mind, how differently people see colour, I was also interested in Art Therapy and how art helps people everyday. I find it interesting to study the minds of children and how different their approach to art is comparing to adults, how different the approach to colour is when you are ill.. and many more.
- The questions for writing a thesis proposal: What is the structure for it? Will the research question that I choose now have to be the same for my route A or B? I am quite unsure how this affects my journey later in year 3.
